When the temperature drops and peak surfing season is in full swing, its time to pick up some Wetsuit boots. Surfing is hard when you cant feel your feet, so having boots to keep your feet warm is a must.
Prior to contrary belief there isn’t ‘one size that fits all’ when it comes to wetsuit boots and there are a few factors that you should consider before you slip on just any old pair.

Thickness
Wetsuit boots just like wetsuits come in different thicknesses. The thicker the boot the warmer it will feel. However, the thinner the boot the more you will feel your surfboard, which can help to improve your surfing. As with most things this comes down to personal preference and what conditions you are going out in, as to which thickness you will need.
Most wetsuit boots come in either a 3mm or 5mm thickness.

Design
Boots have different construction and designs which come down to two main types:
Round toe – A popular option, which is the warmer of the two types of boot (depending on thickness) as it keeps your toes together. The round toe gives you less to think about when it comes to fit.
Split toe – This boot separates your toes into two sections, which allows for better balance and grip. This is the favored option for pro surfers and Team GUL riders. Split toe boots can sometimes have the split internally, which helps keep your leash from getting hooked between your toes.
Grip
Grip is important when it comes to boot design and the type of sole will dictate how much grip you get from the boot.
